rown Memorial Church of the Living God, formerly named the Church of the Living God, was founded in 1928. In 1945 services were held on Jersey Avenue. In 1956, the church moved to 479 Communipaw Avenue and was known as “479”. In 1967 the church relocated to 381 Communipaw Avenue and remained there until 1981.
Acting on a revelation the church building located at 154-156 Harrison Avenue was purchased on July 8, 1982. The church only had 14 members, but God proved Himself to be in control of the negotiation of the Purchase Agreement. The church was dedicated in 1983 as Brown Memorial Church of the Living God in loving memory of the late Pastor, Elder Edgar Brown. The dedication service was performed February 1983. Elder Thomas Bacon was appointed Pastor and the membership began to grow.
He served well from 1985 to November 1986. Elder Ira F. Butler was appointed Pastor and was installed in May 1987 and served until December 2012. Since and during that time many souls have been saved and the Lord increased the membership. The Mortgage Burning Celebration was held May 1, 1988. Located in the city’s West Side neighborhood and nestled amidst the city’s vibrant energy, this historic building has served the people of God and the community. Our prayer is that God will continue to manifest His Spirit and bless us not only in members, but also in spiritual growth and in the knowledge of His Word.

To equip and mobilize believers to share the Gospel and meet the needs of those around us. To reach out to our local community with the Good News of Jesus the Christ through acts of love and to serve those in need. To equip the Church to live out their faith by sharing the gospel, building relationships, and meeting the practical needs within our community and beyond. To empower believers to become fully devoted followers of Christ through service, evangelism, and discipleship. To extend the love of Jesus the Christ by meeting spiritual and physical needs, making disciples and fostering a community of faith.

Believe
Doctrinal Statement
• We believe that the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God, infallible and inerrant in the original writings.
• We believe there is only one Living and True God, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; and in Jesus the Christ, the only begotten Son of God, in the beginning, and in the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of Truth which proceeds from the Father and Son, and is a gift to the believer: and these three agree as one.
• We believe in the virgin birth of Jesus the Christ and that Jesus suffered, and was crucified, died and buried. The third day He rose again, He ascended into the Father, and His return is imminent to come again to judge the quick and the dead.
• We believe Satan is the adversary of God and man.
• We believe that man was created in the image of God; man sinned bringing death to all in his fall.
• We believe in repentance from sin, in the atonement by substitutionary death and shed blood of Jesus the Christ for the propitiation of the sins of the world.
• We believe that salvation is by grace through personal faith in Jesus the Christ, thereby experiencing the new birth.
• We believe in baptism by immersion in water.
• We believe in sanctification and in the baptism, filling and indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life, and in the operations of the gifts in the church.
• We believe that the Church is the body and bride of Christ and is composed solely of born-again believers.
• We believe the commission of Christ is still incumbent on every believer to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
• We believe in the resurrection, ascension, and imminent return of Christ for the church. We acknowledge one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and in you all. AMEN
